2012 NBA Draft: Team Grades - Southeast Division

Atlanta Hawks: John Jenkins, Mike Scott
Jenkins was bound to be picked somewhere around this range, but I don't see why the Hawks would draft someone in the first round that plays the same position as arguably their best player. However, Jenkins might be the best pure shooter in the draft, so he still can and will produce for Atlanta. Mike Scott was a solid pick at #43, averaging 18 ppg and 8 rpg at Virginia his senior year, and could work his way into the rotation this or next year. GRADE: C+

Charlotte Bobcats: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Jeffrey Taylor
I thought that Thomas Robinson would be a better pick at #2 than Kidd-Gilchrist, given that he's a player that can produce now. MKG works very hard and there's no denying that he could be a star three years from now, still a solid pick. Taylor is also a small forward, but is more of a shooter and played great defense for Vanderbilt.  GRADE: B-

Miami Heat: Justin Hamilton
I thought that the Heat might take a big man like Festus Ezeli with their first-round pick, but instead traded it to Philadelphia for the #45 pick (Hamilton) and a future first rounder. I'm not sure if Hamilton will be seeing the court any time soon, and while they won the championship, there's still room for improvement for the Heat.   GRADE: C-

Orlando Magic: Andrew Nicholson, Kyle O'Quinn
It looks like the Magic are stocking up on big men, in case Dwight leaves and they can't sign Ryan Anderson. Nicholson was a good pick given who was available, and I really like O'Quinn from Norfolk State. Nicholson is a guy who can spread the floor all the way to the three-point line, and O'Quinn does a great job inside getting the rebounds. GRADE: B-

Washington Wizards: Bradley Beal, Tomas Satoransky
The Wizards got exactly who they wanted at the #3 pick with Beal. The shooting guard position was their biggest need, and now they'll have a solid mix of youth and veterans in their starting lineup coming into the next season. Satoranksy probably won't come to the NBA for a few more seasons, but should make for a good second-rounder when he comes to the league. GRADE: B+
